Wish Us luck!

After much debate, we have decided to take the whole family on the camping trip again this year. We had originally intended to take everyone, but then we ended up changing Owen's ketogenic diet ratio again. That meant a lot of work re doing all of the recipes. It also meant that I didn't have enough extra food made up to get through the weekend, let alone enough to make it the rest of the week since I wouldn't be spending the weekend cooking. We'd pretty much decided that the little kids and I would stay home and Rod would just take the boys from Duncan on up, including our nephews.
But, I really want some time away that doesn't involve going to the hospital and the little kids were really upset about not going on the trip. I managed to get a few extra meals made up this week, which will get us through the weekend, so we decided to take everyone after all. I won't be blogging the next few days, but I expect to have some great pictures and stories once we get back. Hopefully not quite as great as last year though!  So, wish us luck, since I'm not feeling up to major issues this year. What we really need is a nice, uneventful, relaxing trip!

Boy Scouts-Open House!

Rod actually remembered to take the camera and get some pictures of the last Boy Scout meeting.  This meeting was an open house for upcoming scouts, so the troop made sure to pull out all of their fun stuff. Our troop (I say our loosely here since Rod is the boy scout parent. I did Cubs and Girl Scouts) has an indoor archery set up, a rock wall, and hoverboards.

It still seems weird that my boys are now some of the older, experienced scouts. Look at how little the new guys are. We've been with this troop for 5 years now. If anyone local is looking for a scout troop let me know!

Flight- Young Eagles Program

 Connor and Cameron have been working on the Flight merit badge for Boy Scouts. Last weekend their troop partnered with the Young Eagles group and they got to go up in actual planes.

 Connor and Cameron rode in one of the bigger of the three planes, so Cameron rode in the back and didn't actually get to pilot. Connor got to pilot the plane during most of their 20+ minutes in the air.

  There were a few time slots left open, so the Scout troop opened them up to siblings between the ages of 8 and 18 (Young Eagle requirements), we quickly e-mailed back and managed to snag one of the spots for Duncan.

 Duncan chose to ride in the little plane, not realizing that since he was the only "passenger" he would get to fly the whole time they were in the air. He got to take off too! Thankfully, he didn't get to land the plane.The plane he rode in was designed to be the safest fixed wing plane ever made. It's completely roll over proof.

 I think this has bumped river rafting out of the way for the favorite scout event of the year award.

 After the flight the boys received a code to sign up for Young Eagles membership. This gives them access to all sorts of information and videos about flight and being a pilot. They will also be notified about other events in our area. The boys came right home and signed up. Connor already has developed a plan to get his pilots license! Duncan was thrilled that he was able to fly a plane before he was old enough to drive a car. Devon was a little upset that she was too busy decorating a cake to participate, I think more air time will definitely be in our future.

Scout Camp

 While we were at the hospital with Owen, Connor and Cameron were at scout camp. The boys forgot to bring a camera, so I don't have any pictures of them at camp, but we got a few pictures of the crafts they made. Cameron did units in  basketry, geology, Geo -caching, and weather. Connor also did Geo-caching and weather along with forestry and leather working.  The boys had a blast as usual, although there were some complaints about the food.

 Connor has wanted to work on the leatherwork badge for along time, but somehow it's never worked out before. Here is one of the items he made.

 The boys had just bought a GPS with their hard earned money before camp, so they were excited to take the Geo-cashing badge class. They were able to take their own GPS and learn how to use it. They've done some Geo-caching with their cousins since they've been home too. I think we have a new hobby on our hands!
