Pumpkins!

Last year Owen got sick just before our planned trip to the pumpkin patch, so we had to cancel. We didn't really want to get our pumpkins from the grocery store (not very exciting). We'd noticed a sign advertising pumpkins just down the road from our house, so we decided to go check it out. The older kids decided to share a pumpkin and got this really big one.
This year I saw an advertisement on Craigslist for the neighbor's pumpkin patch and decided to send him an e-mail with these pictures from last year in it. He replied to me that this year they had HUGE pumpkins that you could cut a door and a window into. So, we hooked the trailer up to the van and headed over to see exactly how huge they really were.
The older kids picked this one out! The younger kids still got to choose their own little pumpkins. Brenna actually chose a squash since it was pink. Owen's was chosen specifically for it's handle, so he could carry it himself.

The owner of the pumpkin patch was kind enough to lend us his "sled" and ramps to get the pumpkin home with, since we live a whole mile away and he knew he could get them back.
I've already made a hobbit costume for Brenna, but I think it could also be a Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater's wife costume. We might have a problem if she expects to fit inside our pumpkin every year though. I'm not sure they get much bigger than this one. I am sure that if they do we'll need more help getting it home though!
Now we just have to carve it! Possibly with a chain saw based on how thick last year's pumpkin was.
